A special offering is on the cards tomorrow at 9.30am.
An exclusive Militaria auction will be hosted by the War Store in Rosebank, and conducted by the Old Johannesburg Warehouse Auctioneers.
Close to 300 lots will be on offer, all relating to local wars and conflicts, local and international armed forces and many other historically important military affairs.
Items like medals and badges, uniforms and headgear, daggers and knives, swords and bayonets, books, maps and documents, and military-related furniture – from as far afield as Japan, Russia, US, Germany, UK, Greece and Italy, and closer to home some choice pieces from former Rhodesia, Mozambique, Transkei and South Africa (Anglo-Boer War, Border Wars and SADF) will be up for grabs.
Rare and historical artefacts will come under the hammer, with some of the stand-out pieces being an eight-piece Anglo-Boer war campaign-style secretaire bookcase belonging to Lieutenant-Colonel Northcott; a large collection of authentic and historical Third Reichitems; a rare and original 16th century (Shinto period) Katana, and a WW2 Ky-Gunto sword.
There is sure to be something for everyone’s taste and budget, with some items starting at just a hundred rand, right up to museum- quality pieces worth several thousands of rands.
_ Viewing will be today from 9am to 5pm, and tomorrow before the start of the auction from 8am to 9:30am.
