Copperhouse Antiques is hosting its final sale, with a massive and unreserved day-long public auction tomorrow in Lanseria.

The 88-year-old owner and proprietor, known as Madame Sercu, was a well-known and well-loved figure in the antiques and auctionworld.

Buyer’s number “7” in hand, she typically had a chair reserved for herself at all the main auction houses, and frequented all the main antiques dealers and markets to gather stock for Copperhouse.

For nearly two decades now, the Copperhouse Antiques shop in Lanseria, has been closed to the public, with most of its valuable stock still in the same place as where it was when they closed.

Now, the Sercu family has decided to put the entire contents of the shop – front door to back door – on public auction, to be sold to the highest bidder.

The contents of Copperhouse include a huge number of quality antique and period pieces of furniture, including armoires, buffets, a kussingkas, sideboards, dressers, cabinets, diningroom tables, occasional tables and chairs, plant stands, matching sets of chairs, lounge suites and chests, as well as a few dozen South African artworks and paintings.

Glass, crystal and ceramic ware, automobilia, rare books and prints, collectables, bronze sculptures, silver and tableware, Persian and Oriental carpets and many other treasures will appeal to collectors, traders and dealers alike .

Free printed catalogues will be available to registered buyers at the viewing today, and at the auction tomorrow.

Refreshments will be for sale during the day, and there is secure parking and easy collection facilities at the auction venue.
