Strauss & Co will once again be promoting its July online-only auction at the Turbine Art Fair (TAF) from July 14-16, following its record-breaking sale that ran concurrently with TAF last year.
The auction goes live today at 8am and closes on Monday, July 17, at 8pm.
The auction house will be showcasing highlights from its 460 lot auction, including paintings, sculpture, art on paper, decorative arts and books. There will be something to tempt both young and old, new buyers and collectors, from an extensive range of contemporary and historic artworks, books and decorative arts (Stand DK1).
Highlights from the auction include a silkscreen by Walter Battiss, Man with Bird Hat (estimate R12 000-R16 000), a pair of Deborah Bell etchings, Extinguish my eyes; Seal my Ears (R4 000-R6 000), a charcoal and watercolour by Robert Hodgins (R30 000-R50 000) as well as 10 individual Hodgins editions with estimates from as low as R10 000. Other highlights include Avenue with Mine Dump, Mayfair, by Walter Voigt (R7 000-R10 000), Crashing Waves by Christopher Tugwell (R15 000-R20 000), a 1917 Pierneef pastel landscape (R40 000-R60 000) and three of the much sought after Pierneef linocuts.
Strauss & Co are also sponsoring and curating an exhibition featuring a selection of works from the exceptional Pierneef Collection assembled by local businessman and entrepreneur Anton Taljaard, who began collecting art in his teens. These important early 20th century paintings by Pierneef, will be juxtaposed with artworks produced by Artists Proof Studio and prints will be made at TAF as part of this exhibition (Stand Power House PH1).
