In the lead-up to one of the country’s most coveted wine auctions – taking place during October in Stellenbosch – wine enthusiasts and novices across Gauteng and the Western Cape, can in the coming weeks experience a taste of what’s to go under the hammer.
Some of South Africa’s top winemakers have been hard at work, creating wines for one reason only: to make it through the selection process that will see them showcased at a one-of-a-kind wine auction, The Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild (CWG) Auction.
“With a small selection from reputable Shiraz producers, Shiraz will stay one of the favourites at the Auction this year. There is a strong line up of great Chardonnay, followed by Bordeaux-style red blends which will also get a lot of attention.
“With a positive outlook in the wine industry and a fine selection of fewer and smaller lots, I do anticipate keen bidding this year,” said David Nieuwoudt, Treasurer for the CWG and Cederberg Cellars owner and cellar master.
Specially crafted by members of the Cape Winemakers Guild, these wines will only be available at the annual Auction.
In an exclusive preview, wine enthusiasts will be given the opportunity to meet the Guild members and experience the auction wines, among others, at The Nedbank Cape Winemakers Guild Auction Showcases in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
Created in small volumes, exclusively for the Auction, the showcased wines have withstood the scrutiny of a panel of Guild members and have been put forward for auction due to their outstanding quality and distinction.
Formed in 1982, the Guild, an association of some of South Africa’s finest winemakers has evolved into a body of 45 members who jointly represent the pinnacle of South African wine achievement.
All experts in their respective fields, Guild members have played a significant role in the development of the South African wine industry.
