Bernardi Auctioneers will be hosting an art and collectables auction on Saturday at 65 Thomson Street, Colbyn, Pretoria.
The two session auction starts at 10am and will also include select furniture, autographed books and numismatics from the private collection of the late Pik Botha.
The first session commences with 144 lots of mainly South African numismatics, including a large variety of gold and silver bullion coins, twin, long and short proof sets, ZAR, Republic and Krugerponde.
Of particular interest to avid collectors will be the various coin sets, medallions, awards and decorations manufactured by the SA Mint and Mauro Pagliari of the Cape Mint – which includes The Order of Good Hope and the Decoration for Distinguished Service, as well as a scarce 9ct gold SA Railways Life Pass, various coin and medallion sets from the TVBC States and also presentations from around the world.
Autograph collectors are in for a treat with books signed by Nelson Rohlihlahla Mandela, Chester Crocker, Dr Henry Kissinger, David Goldblatt, George Bizos, Harold Serebro and Andrei Urnov – most of which were personally inscribed to Pik Botha during his political career.
This will be followed by a selection of silver and electroplate, crystal, period furniture and embellishments, including a Louis XV style bureau-plat, a Napoleon III Boulle and ebonised side cabinet, a scarce American Hammond no 1B portable typewriter as well as Cape, Transvaal and tamboti furniture pieces. he second session featuring SA art and sculpture will start at 1pm and includes a selection of Old Master, modern & contemporary works by Walter Battiss, George Boys, Zakkie Eloff, Alice Goldin, Hennie Griesel, Johan Grobler, Irmin Henkel, Michael Heyns, Wopko Jensma, Martin & Johan Koch, Braam Kruger and others.
